Insightful!
This podcast pushed my thinking, and gave me insight I didn’t know I needed. 10/10, would recommend.

LOVE
I just love Jilian Star. She’s so authentic, kind hearted, judgement free, and you know she’s in education for all the right reasons. I cried while listening to her infertility episode. Though I myself haven’t struggled with that, she really enlightened me on what my peers and friends maybe be going through around me. I also loved her performative allyship episode with Liz. I have to be honest.. I think I am guilty of being a performative ally!! I need to do better. Thanks for keeping me informed and in check.

The best teacher podcast
Jillian’s podcast has quickly become the highlight of my day. Not only is she knowledgeable, with new and thoughtful ideas that help me as a student teacher, but she has the most calming voice I have ever heard. Her podcast not only fills my cup with new ideas to try in the classroom and provides me with a fresh perspective, but it is an incredible source of calm and comfort. It feels like she is giving me a hug through my AirPods. I struggle to pay attention and often write off listening to podcasts as “not my thing” but her episodes have me captivated and focused the entire time, and leave me feeling refreshed. I have already learned so much from listening to her, and I think her content is not only great for classroom teachers but also student teachers, parents, and really anyone who works with children or in schools. I highly recommend listening and I am so glad I stumbled upon her podcasts.

Inspiring, always
I actually need to force myself to slow down and space out all of Jillian’s wonderful podcasts so that I can give each episode the reflection it deserves. I take notes during these podcasts and think of them as professional development. Jillian is WONDERFUL and honest and inspiring. She discusses wildly important topics, and I am so appreciative of her sharing her wealth of knowledge with anyone who wants to listen.

Bad Financial Advice!
The guest you had in financial planning was just saying so many things that are not the best way to handle finances! As a listener of Dave Ramsey I was literally yelling “NO!!!” at half the things she said. Encouraging people to use credit cards for the “rewards” is a easy way for people to end up in the hole and you should not be investing in your retirement until your debt is paid off. Dave Ramsey’s baby steps. Look them up before listening to a random person who wrote a blog and now thinks they’re an “expert”.

Less about teaching, more about left activism
I highly enjoy the episodes that center around teaching practices, they are thoughtful and useful. I don’t particularly enjoy the victimization of minorities lense that she often takes. We can fend for ourselves, thank you.

Love at first listen
I typed in “teaching” and this came up, I didn’t expect to be blown away but listened to every single episode after the first one. Jillian’s voice is a warm, cheerful hug with thoughtful advice on how we teach in our classrooms. Although she teaches primary and I teach 5th grade, so many of her ideas and thoughts carry over into upper grades as well. She has me questioning the “why” behind many of my procedures and policies and my classrooms. I would 100% give a listen if you’re looking for inspiration in your classroom. Looking forward to more episodes!

8 episodes in and still learning.
As a veteran teacher, 15 years and counting, I listened to Jillian’s podcast expecting to know much of what she was presenting. While it is true that I am not new to Jillian’s content, I still walk away with so many notes and ideas. This podcast is for any one in education, no matter how many years you’d been in the business. I am recommending to all of my teacher friends and colleagues. Thank you Jillian for sharing with & inspiring us.

I love listening to your podcasts
Jillian, thank you for all of the great material. It is all so relevant to today’s best practices in teaching and I really appreciate you telling your story as a child growing up with struggles that were not understood. It has definitely made me take a closer look as to how I present material, and becoming more aware of the silent struggles that students may be going through. I feel your episode on the trauma aware classroom is one that all staff should listen to. (As well as several others) I shared your name with our school counselor and principal as your information is right in line with the training that out staff has been receiving for the last couple of years.

A Must Listen!
I discovered this podcast just two days ago and have already listened to all but one of the episodes! Jillian delivers such important information in each installment. She has provided me with comfort as she affirms practices that I already employ in my classroom as well as inspiration as she guides me to think about things in new ways. She not only gives teachers amazing research-based information, but she also gives us practical steps to take in our classrooms NOW! All of this is delivered with zero tone of judgment and Jillian’s voice is so calming. Her students are lucky to listen to her all day!

Relevant and empathetic
This podcast is great! It’s informative without being condescending and is so clear and easy follow. While some ideas are ‘grab and run with it’ ideas, and others are ‘nice but not now’, almost everything is something I’d like to experiment with in my own classroom. Also as an added bonus, her voice is so calming and warm that you instantly feel understood and relaxed. Teaching can be a lonely profession with many demands from the school, districts, and parents. Ms Starr somehow gives over that feeling of being right there with you and supporting you individually even though you’ve never met! Also Jillian, if you do morning meeting I’d love to hear an episode about that!

Should be required listening!
My first experience with this podcast was episode 12 on educational trauma and trauma based learning. I was driving and once the episode was over I drove in silence to process it all and then I started thinking out my plans for back to school. There were things I hadn’t even thought about before that now will always be at the front of my mind as I plan. This is such an important topic. After that episode I listened to more and Jillian Starr provides great content that is informative and translates to the classroom. I’m so glad I found this podcast!

Warm and thought-provoking
I’ve been following Jillian on TPT/IG for a few years, and have always been inspired by her classroom’s aesthetic, and the creative and well-thought out products she creates. This podcast is my favorite thing she’s done, though. Jillian is truly admirable in the way she thinks so deeply and critically about what is best practice for her students, and shares ideas to help us figure out what would be best for ours. I haven’t tested this out with a stopwatch, but I don’t think she goes one minute in any of her episodes without bringing it back to the WHY- our students. She also tackles tough stuff remarkably well, challenging popular and usually well-intentioned but potentially harmful practices without being judgmental or harsh. In short, Jillian cares very much for students and for teachers, and will inspire you to do the same.

Inspiring and Thought Provoking
I only found this podcast today but I have already listened to 3 episodes back to back. I am already finding things I want to implement in my class this upcoming year. Take a listen if you want to expand and change yourself as a teacher!

ESSENTIAL Listening!
Listening to this podcast is like getting Jillian as your mentor! As a new teacher, I really, really appreciate someone who tries new things and shares what’s worked and what hasn’t. You can really tell that Jillian wants to do what’s best for students, and that she puts their well-being and learning ahead of cutesy stuff and bureaucratic bs. Thank you, Jillian!

I wish Jillian was my teacher growing up
Jillian Starr is like the Fred Rogers of elementary school teachers. She’s super wholesome, caring, and inclusive of every type of student. This podcast is great for helping teachers and parents alike treat their children with the kindness and respect that they will fully understand and internalize. I’ve learned how to create a safe, engaging, and comfortable environment for my kids. This podcast (and her instagram) helped me go from saying things like “good job!” to really taking a moment to acknowledge progress specific to the child. I could go on but I’d just suggest you give it a listen and understand for yourself. Such good food for thought in this podcast!

The best teaching podcast out there
I love listening to podcasts about every area of my life: parenting, keeping a household, even meal planning! However, I had never found a teaching podcast I liked until now. Jillian breaks it down into useful and clear strategies that make the information so digestible and actionable. Thank you, Jillian! I’m looking forward to implementing these strategies right away!

Inspiring and Thought-provoking
I am absolutely loving Jillian Starr’s new podcast for teachers. She’s genuine and honest, but more than that, she cares about teachers and shared her thoughts in a way that is considerate and heartfelt. She comes from a place that knows that teachers are trying their best to do the best for their students, and she’s here to help teachers do just that! Since she is such a reflective and thoughtful practitioner herself, the major benefit of the podcast is that she will leave you feeling inspired and thinking about (and oftentimes reconsidering) your own teaching practices too. Give it a listen and you won’t be disappointed!

This has been the perfect addition for my playlist when driving home. Jillian shares thoughtful and inspiring messages and ideas that ALL teachers can use. Whether it’s applying to their classroom or how to take care of oneself. Looking forward to future episodes to help me learn and grow more as a teacher.

5 stars!
Only 2 episodes in and I love this podcast! Jillian’s first episode where she shares her own story and how she draws upon that to guide her own teaching practices really tugs at the heart strings. The second episode is a really honest look at using rewards and incentives in the classroom and serves as a perfect guide to reflect on your own practices in the classroom, regardless of if you agree with her insight. I’m excited to continue to listen!

Agree on class management.
I am loving the classroom management podcast! I will not reward expected behavior in my classroom and others don’t like that. I do not like the pbis route that we are taking. Every month we are to give little bookbag tags for this and that. Attendance- if you are sick-stay home—but now you don’t get a tag. So come to school sick and infect others. Then we have the “I passed my math facts” yep over half my class is on ieps and over half my class hasn’t passed the first test YET. They don’t get a tag yet they improve every week. And then we have the targeted behavior. One per month. This month is restroom behavior. I can pick ONE person who behaves in the restroom? Wow. Thanks. I’m just so down on this yet my whole school eats it up. Positive office referrals? Don’t get me started. So and so turned in money he found on the playground. Then the kids find a penny and want me to fill out a paper. So and so held a door open for an adult. WOW. Way to go. Thanks for being human!!! Sorry. I need to go!! Can’t rant anymore. I love your podcasts tho

So good!
First off, just listening to Jillian’s voice is relaxing. She is so very passionate and isn’t shying away from hard topics. At the same time, she isn’t judgmental or harsh in anything she says. She makes you think and reflect and re-examine how and what you are doing for your students and yourself. Can’t wait for more episodes!

Jillian—Wow!
“Daring greatly means the courage to be vulnerable. It means to show up and be seen, to ask for what you need, to talk about what you’re feeling, to have the tough conversations.” After binge listening to all three of your episodes, this quote came to mind. Jillian, thank you for your vulnerability. I really enjoyed what you’ve done so far, and I am so happy for you! Keep it up! I especially enjoyed how frank you were on the behavior episode. It’s important we as educators have the tough conversations. I’m here for it!

Being transparent!
Totally happy to find this podcast. I love how this educator is transparent on how she was a struggling student who found a way through our educational system. I too teach with the eyes of students who struggle and would never change who I am!

LOVED!
This episode, very eloquently, put into words so many things I think and feel about common behavior management practices. This episode really gets you to consider perspectives teachers may not have considered when finding ways to reward their students and the messages that are sent. This is DEFINITELY an episode every teacher should listen to.
