Stop It, Patton
Stop trying to grift off of your dead wife’s book/work- you seem to have moved on in every way except monetarily and it feels incredibly gross. She didn’t ‘solve’ GSK, didn’t have an inkling of who it might be- she was simply addicted to the story, and then addicted to the drugs that kept her writing the story, which you happily stole for her, yet somehow escape any culpability. Don’t go away mad, just go away, little guy.

Michelle the writer
Read her book to know about the crimes. Listen to this to learn as much about Michelle and her process as we can now hope to learn. RIP

Incredible Story. Incredibly Annoying Music.
Great story, great interviews. The music on some of the interviews (and WHAT was with the guitar music over Letter to an Old Man?!) was beyond grating and completely ruined it for me. That letter was truly some of the best writing I’ve ever heard - hearing it read out out in the HBO documentary gave me chills. Boy did these people ruin it.

Nothing new
This is almost a condensed version of the HBO series. Also, some of the background music is WAY too upbeat and chipper considering the context.

I’ll be gone in the dark
She grips you with intelligence. The next Truman Capote of our time. A must read for writers, detectives and anyone who believes in justice.
A True Detective
Dumbfounded
Very strange that Michelle died before the making of this podcast or towards the end- and it was allegedly due to a drug overdose. Very sad and strange....

Thank You Michelle McNamara!

ILLBE GONE In the dark
I’m really disappointed. This was about police work, DNA history and forensic advancement. And the author. Which would be fine except for the victims. Many, many victims. I expected to read about the victims and their families. Also, the devastating impact on their lives.

Bad editing
There are so many excerpts that are placed over and over event within one episode. Also, there is a part where we get to hear someone read Michele’s letter to an old man (the killer) and the music used for this piece is terrible. It’s like upbeat lullaby music which is not want makes sense when we are hearing words about this killer finally getting caught.

Podcast is deceptive
This podcast is more about the development and publication of a book, not about the underlying crimes, victims, or the perpetrator. The marketing is deceptive. I was very disappointed with the final product.

Michelle Michelle Michelle.
I am almost done with episode 2. I am more interested in hearing about the crimes. So far this is more about the author...seems very weird to me. Book sales?

Love
Girrrrrrrl! I found this podcast and had listened to every episode available in less than a week. The hosts are so funny but still respectful towards the subject matter. I just need more episodes and a garbage person bell of my own to use.

I wanted a story. Instead they got a lot of whiny narratives I’ve about everything but the case. Don’t waste your time

Michelle was amazing
I listened to this podcast after this story broke recently and I became obsessed! The book is amazing and this is such a great supplement to Michelle’s work

We Need An Update
Really good podcast quickly giving a high overview of the process of finishing the book. Now that the killer has been caught, we need an update episode with everyone involved

Obsessed with True Crime
Great insight to Michelle's journey to capture this perpetrator.

Love love love
If you are a murderino, this is a must listen. I started on this journey with the My Favorite Murder podcast and have been slowly falling into the rabbit hole. Having already read the book, it was great listening to this after. I am truly saddened by the loss of such a brilliant and complex woman but thankful that I was able to be a part of her legacy. Check out MFM, there is an podcast episode with Patton Oswalt in which they talk about this book and subsequently, this podcast. Also the Detective Holes interview that was recently done to start to get a little more closure about the GSK.

Extended eulogy
You likely already know that Michelle McNamara died suddenly after mixing pills with booze and was married to Patton Oswalt who remarried 18 months later. You, yourself, are probably into not just true crime, but true crime research, just like Michelle McNamara. Not sure why she's being canonized as the Patron Saint of True Crime writers. Credit where it is due, but she didn't solve this crime --she researched and wrote about it. Maybe well, but any mention of this author anywhere seems like a self-funded extended eulogy by her celebrity widower. The podcast is mostly grown women at the top of their profession talking in baby voices, intoning statements as questions, and beginning each answer with, "So..." Her husband's squeaky voice blathers on annoyingly in his typical self-important, "dontcha hate it when..." style. Oh hey, and did you know her husband was Patton Oswalt? The comedian?

Methodologies and interviews with Michelle explaining the case
We lost a great researcher, writer, puzzle solver in Michelle McNamara. These episodes contain the people who worked with her and Oswald Patton, discussing the methodologies to write this book and interviews with Michelle.

Different type of story
I am sure this was cathartic for all who were involved in writing the book or anyone who had a relationship with the author, but for someone on the outside interested in true crime, there was not much substance. Definitely a beautiful story about a woman’s self described obsession, but again, not very entertaining.

Excellent- awesome to hear Michelle’s voice
This is a great companion to the book. It’s so awesome (and sad) to hear Michelle talk about it. ❤️👌🏼

I’m here for the story
For everyone giving this podcast 1 Star, you came with the wrong intention. This is the story of one woman’s obsession with solving a cold case, passing away while writing the book about it and the heroic effort on the part of everyone involved to get her book finished. It made me buy the book, which I started reading immediately. Alone. In bed. Til the wee hours. Until I had to get up and check my doors and windows. My life is forever changed, and Michelle’s writing will haunt me until I’m too old to remember why I don’t sleep with my window cracked anymore. Thank you for letting us in on the story behind the book, it makes reading her words that much more powerful.

Obsessed
I just recently found out about The Golden State Murders. So of course I want to know everything about what happened. It makes me sad that she past away without ever solving the crime.

Wanted to like it
Big fan of Patton and I was intrigued by this crime case. Sadly this podcast is slow, boring, and uninteresting. When the first episode is boring, who wants to continue?

Fascinating
This is a great recap of how Michelle Macnamara pursued her obsession to find the Golden State Rapist. It also touches on her tragic early death and the impact it had on her family, friends and the book. I love it!!

Boring
I honestly could care less about Patton Oswald or Michelle McNara. This show is basically about Michelle and I haven’t heard any actual information about the crimes being committed that I couldn’t find on the first page of google. This is the worst “crime” podcast I have ever listened to.
mentalsoak
So moving
This is a great accompaniment to Michelle’s new book and a beautiful tribute to her memory. It’s amazing that so many people are now focused on the Golden State Killer and so much of that is due to Michelle. Beyond time to catch this guy!
Cold Traces pod
Not great so far
I thought this was a podcast about the Original Night Stalker, but so far, it’s just about a lady who was interested in the Original Night Stalker. Not the same thing. I don’t care at all about that.

Interesting New kind of True Crime
I came for the true crime story, but also found the story of how someone working on something at home turns it into a book deal very interesting
